Hi! My name is Chrissi. I live in Hoboken, home of the "Cake Boss" and the birthplace of baseball and Frank Sinatra. With my husband, infant son and extraordinary super-dog we are set to take over the world... of mommy blogging (Well, at least I'm trying...they are tagging along!) I love to bake and I share Sweet recipes I try every Sunday. I post every night (or at least I try to post every night!) around midnight. The only time, as a new mother, that I have to myself.

Book Review-No Easy Day

While I'm more of a beach-read, cutesy romance kind of girl, I just had to read about the Navy Seals mission that killed Osama Bin Laden.

I was just 17 years old when 9/11 happened. My entire adult life has been affected by that single event. It turned everyone's lives upside-down. The world is such a different place than it was on September 10, 2001 and in a lot of ways, I feel like it has forced me to grow up. I think we've all become cynical and critical. Life has gotten serious.

When the news first broke about the death of Osama Bin Laden, I was home by myself sleeping. Bartek was away in Las Vegas for a bachelor party, but he still called me and woke me up. This wasn't something that could wait until the morning. I was a few months pregnant, so life had changed so much from ten years ago. That night, I stayed up for hours and hours flipping back and forth to different news channels and obsessively reading Facebook to see what people were saying. I broke down into sobs, maybe it was the hormones or just the relief of knowing that he was gone. I wouldn't say that I felt safer after hearing the news, but I definitely felt different.

When I found out a year later that there would be a book about the mission, morbid curiosity struck me. I was so glad to be able to hear what really happened instead of what was being speculated on all of those news channels.

Written under a pseudonym, although everyone knows his real name by now, Mark Owen delves into the Osama Bin Laden mission. It also focuses half of the book on his training and career as a Navy Seal. The Bin Laden mission is seldom talked about in the first 150 pages of the book and because of that it was tough to get through the first half of the book, but when I finally did, I couldn't put it down! I needed to know what happened next. It was interesting to hear about how Owen's team adapted their plans after their helicopter crashed inside the courtyard of the compound and to hear about the fire fight between the Seals and Bin Laden's courier. Owen tells about what really happened, step-by-step, and it is so interesting to read.

Although it's tough to read through sometimes because of all of the military phrases (that really just go over my head!), I really recommend reading this just so you can learn and feel like you are there as history is being made.
